I wish I was in New York right now… As my Instagram feed fills up with star-studded front rows and fashion bloggers snapping from behind the scenes, I can honestly say I am #majorly-jealous. Unfortunately, we can’t all be there (I can’t even legally leave Australia at the moment!) and so I thought we could all pretend we were there together. So here you have it, dear readers, the five best bits from fashion week so far. So grab your heels, pop a coat over your shoulders in an oh so effortless way and let’s pretend we’re all there together! #PretendingImAtFashionWeek
Highlight #1 – Jamie Brewer Shows That Beauty Comes In All Shapes And Sizes
During Carrie Hammer’s ‘Role Models Not Runway Models’ catwalk show, actress Jamie Brewer became the first ever model with Down syndrome to grace the red carpet. Hammer called it ‘runway revolution’ and the inspiring Jamie looked truly stunning in a bespoke-made A-line black dress.
Highlight #2 The Midi Bermuda @ BCBGMaxAzria
Ok, so I made up the name for this one…. But I’d put bets on the fact that these very quirky pants are going to be the next big thing. The pants are a baggier take on last seasons Bermuda pants with a hem that sits between the knee and ankle, making them super flattering. Right now, we’re all about the midi-skirt, next season, we may all be about the midi short. Who knows, right?
Speaking of BCBGMaxAzria, I also adored his flowy white dress-shirts with oversized sleeves. He contrasted these stunningly with casual grey knits. And it looks like 70s bohemia is here to stay, but with a fair isle twist…
Highlight #3 TOME
Tome’s collection was all about shape. Perfectly positioned pinstripes ran along the angles of the body, creating a mesmerizing juxtaposition of structure and softness. The classic long-length camel coat was paired with turtle necks, creating a silhouette that drew attention to the line of the shoulders. Also, take note of the ‘faux turtle necks’; coming soon to an accessory store near you!
Highlight #4 Marsala at Rebecca Minkoff
With the richness of ‘fortified wine’, marsala was voted the colour of 2015 by Pantone. Minkoff is ahead of the pack, featuring laid-back, gypsy-like designs in rich marsala shades. Note: the fringe boots: I have a feeling these are gonna be big!
Highlight #5 The Street Style
Two words: coat porn. Layering was chic and luscious coats were strewn nonchalantly over the shoulders.
ANDDDD… you can totally watch it all live as NYFW continues to happen here.
