What do Minnie Mouse, Marilyn Monroe and the 2018 fashion week runways have in common? Polka dots.
I’m going dotty for polka dot prints this Summer and you should be too! This versatile print has been in style over the years more than big hair, James Bond and flared pants combined. Here’s how I style up polka dots, the 2018 way…
Top: Sportsgirl (Similar here)
Skirt: Riders by Lee*
Scarf (on bag): C/Meo Collective
Glasses: Kylie Minogue for Specsavers
When I was 14, I remember my favorite top like it was, as cliche as it sounds, yesterday. It was from Miss Selfridge and it was white with black polka dots. It had gathered puff sleeves- remember when that was totally a thing? I loved wearing this little polkadot number so much, that my 2005 wardrobe soon became a maze of polka dot pieces in every shade of the rainbow.
Dear 14 year old Rachel; polka dots are back on top! And P.S. you are also now blind as a bloomin bat and have to wear glasses. Soz.
Although I wasn’t hooked on the idea of wearing prescription glasses at first, I’m starting to see them another cute accessory that I can work into my everyday style.
When I asked you guys what you thought of my glasses on Instagram, a whopping 90% of you said you wanted me to feature them in my outfit posts. So there you have it; expect to see more of s̶p̶e̶c̶c̶y̶ ̶f̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶e̶y̶e̶s̶ my glasses and how I like to team various pairs with my outfits.
But I’m waffling harder than Belgium, let’s get back to polkadots… Shirred tops are still huge here in Australia and I can bet my bottom dollar that they are going to be huge for the European and American Summer too! This shirred polka dot top is a double trend whammy! Plus, the strapless neckline is great for showing off a golden Summer glow, or faux glow, too.
Every girl needs a good denim basic and this denim skirt is my go-to when I’m styling up cute little Summer tops. After I’d worn my black baker boy cap to kingdom come and back, I thought I needed to mix it up a little bit and as soon as I saw this denim newsboy cap, I got major heart eyes.
Donning polkadots and looking waaay too dressed up, Jake and I headed to Barron Gorge to check out the effects of the recent Cairns floods. The huge waterfall on the top photo was pretty much non-existent a couple of weeks ago. Well, that’s one advantage of the crazy wet weather we’ve been having.
Wow. Look at me being the biggest British stereotype and talking about the weather. #OnceABritAlwaysABrit
I’ll leave you with the polkadots.
